WInger tackles USA Nationals at Cedar Lake; Top-5 outing with XR Super Series
After a few weeks away from the track, Ashton Winger returned to competition at Cedar Lake Speedway (New Richmond, Wis.) with his Mathews Motorsports No. 12 for the first night of the USA Nationals with the World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series.
With a whopping 48 Late Models on site, Winger lost three spots in his heat race and was unable to transfer to the $6,000-to-win prelim feature after a fourth-place run in his Last Chance Showdown. Taking part in the FANS Fund Dash, Ashton came home with a fourth-place finish.
For another $6,000-to-win preliminary feature on Friday, Ashton nabbed the final transfer spot in his B-Main before recording a 24th-place finish in the main event.
Needing to finish inside the Top-3 in his Last Chance Showdown to crack Saturday's A-Main field, Winger finished second which placed him on the tenth-row for the $50,000-to-win main event. In the lengthy 100-lap feature, Ashton was an early retiree on lap 52 and was scored 22nd in the final rundown.
Staying out in the Midwest, Ashton Winger visited Gondik Law Speedway (Superior, Wis.) on Monday afternoon for the Superior Showcase with the XR Super Series.
Following a strong lap in his qualifying group, Ashton picked up the win in his heat which earned him a second-row starting spot in the $20,000-to-win showdown. Running as high as second in the 50-lap feature, Winger wound up just off the podium in fourth when the checkered flag flew.
The busy week wrapped up on Tuesday evening at Red Cedar Speedway (Menomonie, Wis.) with the XR Workin' Man Series.
Ashton was once again victorious in his heat race which placed him on the front row for the $10,000-to-win feature. Battling with the leaders in the 40-lap main event, Winger wound up with a fifth-place outing.
