Second-place finish in Jimmy Thomas Memorial at East Alabama
Ashton Winger entered the Jeff Mathews Motorsports No. 12 Late Model into battle with the Schaeffer’s Spring Nationals miniseries on Friday afternoon at Buckshot Speedway (Clanton, Ala.) for the opener to the two-day weekend.
Drawing 32 cars, Winger’s qualifying effort placed him on the third row for main event. After climbing to second, Winger suffered a flat right-rear tire on lap 26 that brought an early end to his evening
The following night at East Alabama Motor Speedway (Phenix City, Ala.) for the Jimmy Thomas Memorial, Ashton secured his spot into the $10,053-to-win A-Main with a runner-up finish in his heat. Starting in fourth, Winger slid ahead of Sam Seawright for the lead on lap 11 but couldn’t contain Brandon Overton late as he surrendered the top spot to Overton on lap 40. He went onto place second with Carson Ferguson rounding out the podium.
